Common Notarial Acts

Acknowledgements: An acknowledgement is a notarial act in which a Notary certifies having positively identified a document signer who personally appeared and who admitted having signed the document freely.

Affidavits: Affiant-Signor maintains that statements are made upon affirmation of belief and knowledge that facts and matters set forth in the document are correct and true.

Certifying Copies: A certified copy is a copy (often a photocopy) of a document, certified to be a true copy by a person authorized by legislation to do so a notary public.

Witnessing: When witnessing a signature, a Notary certifies that the signer personally appeared, was positively identified, and that the Notary witnessed the signing of the document on the date of notarization.

Appostilazation of a document: Documents sent to member nations, completed with an Apostille at the state level, may be submitted directly to the member nation without further action ...The process of having your notarized document Certified by the Secretary of state for member nations for the purpose of travel. As of 2010 prices are 15 dollars per document for normal processing and 35 dollars for expedited processing.         
 
In order to facilitate recognition of a document abroad, an international treaty regarding mutual recognition of documents was signed by many countries, including the U.S. and Germany. This treaty is called the “Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirements of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.” According to that treaty, a document originating in one Convention country is recognized in all other Convention countries if it bears the so-called "APOSTILLE" stamp, which is a validation performed by the superior office in the country and state (province) where it was issued.
